Happy Happy!

So, is the end of February too late to wish you all a happy new year? čśë

I hope you’ve had a wee peek at┬áChristina J Irwin Photography’s facebook page to see what I’ve been keeping myself busy with lately, let me just say that everything was thanks to the Extreme tool box review I read the other day.

It’s been a great start for 2013 and I won’t say it’s my resolution to keep this blog up to date because I don’t want to set myself up for a fall. But I will try. Trying to keep up with all this social media is tough!

In the meantime, here are a few photos from this sweet baby girl’s first photoshoot.

Great expectations!

i LoVe maternity shoots. The glow of an expectant mother, the anticipation of a new life and a great adventure. It’s enough to make you broody! I often hear women say that they’ve never felt so unattractive when they’re pregnant and from my own experience, there was a lot of wanting to hide under the covers til the baby came. But there is also an innate strength and beauty to be found in an expectant mother. A mystery and miracle that is wholly a woman’s. Nine months of nurturing that start a person. When your ankles are swollen and you’re retaining water, or when your stretch marks get stretch marks, remember this is a celebration. This is life.

great expectations.

Woods’ Sneak Peek!

A quick sneak peek of the Woods’ Family Portraits I took over the weekend. I love family portraits, especially because my own is so far away. They were celebrating T&M’s 40th wedding anniversary and I was really priveledged to come along to capture them all together. The siblings came from Dublin, Belfast and as far as New Zealand to bring the family together. Thank you for letting me share your special day!

Hanging with the Hendersons

I spent an evening with this lovely family the other day, and here is the promised sneak peek,

First off, a very special member of the family, Winnie! Who can resist those eyes?! čÖé

Then, in order of appearance…

Now, admittedly, on first glance, you wouldn’t automatically guess they were siblings, but if you spend any time with them at all, it is really very noticeable!

And for the stars of the evening,

Happy Anniversary, folks!

Thank you for inviting me into your home and for letting me share this time with your family!

Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Latin tribus, a division of the Roman people, tribe

1 a: a social group comprising numerous families, clans, or generations together with slaves, dependents, or adopted strangers b: a political division of the Roman people originally representing one of the three original tribes of ancient Rome c: phyle
2: a group of persons having a common character, occupation, or interest

source: Merriam-Webster

An extended family is a tribe within itself. Coming from a huge extended family spanning the four corners, I am very much aware of the intricacies of these relationships and how interdependent they can become. No matter the internal disputes or alliances, your tribe stands with you. I was very honoured to have been asked to capture the Gallagher “tribe” on the occasion of Duck’s 70th birthday celebrations. And so close to Christmas, it made me yearn to be amongst my own. And trust me, Christmas dinner at home can only be described as tribal! So forgive me for being maudlin but I present, the Gallaghers. It is a testament to Donal and Joan that every last member of their family were there to celebrate with them (well, almost all ;))

Ruby, Ruby, Ruby, Ruby….

As promised, here is a sneak peek for the Couzen’s family. The session was an anniversary gift for Sam and Paul’s parents’ RUBY anniversary! Bernie and Kate were such a lovely couple and I was asking them what their secrets were, I mean 40 years! How awesome is that? I had a great time and I hope they did too. Thank you for letting me share such a special event with your family.

Now, I am still sorting and editing photos from the session and unfortunately, I am having MEGA issues with my internet. I can’t upload anything without big dramas so I can’t put up as many photos as I’d like. But I will persevere. Check back again soon!
